Exploring Grabenhorst Garden: A Tranquil Retreat in Pitt Meadows

Nestled in the heart of Pitt Meadows, Grabenhorst Garden is a five-acre sanctuary that invites visitors to reconnect with nature, reflect, and slow down. This stunning woodland space is rich with history and care—once a pasture, then a Christmas tree farm, and now a beautifully curated public garden. We attended on July 18, 2025 on the grand opening day.
A Legacy of Green
The garden is the legacy of Rose Grabenhorst, a devoted Pitt Meadows resident and environmental advocate who spent over five decades lovingly transforming this property into a flourishing natural retreat. Her passion for gardening and native plant life lives on through more than 700 rhododendrons, meandering walking trails, and peaceful pockets for community connection.
From the moment you arrive, the sense of serenity is unmistakable. Winding paths guide you through ornamental woodland beds, edible gardens, and a community orchard. Along the way, you’ll discover quiet stormwater ponds and the gentle charm of the pollinator garden—a paradise for plant lovers and photographers alike.

One of the most whimsical surprises we encountered was a miniature village carefully built into a mossy root system, tucked away like a hidden forest secret. This tiny world sparked our imagination and added a magical, playful element to the garden's natural beauty—proof that every corner of Grabenhorst Garden has a story to tell.

A Highlight: The Place of Remembrance

At the heart of Grabenhorst Garden lies the Place of Remembrance, a tranquil setting with benches, water features, and space to reflect on loved ones. Whether you’re looking for a moment of solitude or a meaningful way to honour someone special, this space offers peace and purpose in equal measure.

This spot became our personal favourite during our visit. The thoughtful design invites you to pause, breathe, and soak in the calm. We found ourselves returning more than once, simply to sit and take in the view.
The Rhododendron Walk: A Blooming Wonderland
Although we visited after the main blooming season had passed, the impact of the rhododendron walk was still incredible. With over 700 rhododendrons planted throughout the garden, it’s easy to imagine how breathtaking this space must be in full bloom. We’re already planning to return next spring to experience the full magic of the vibrant blossoms. It’s a must-see for any flower lover, gardener, or nature enthusiast.
An Invitation to Wander
Grabenhorst Garden isn’t just a park—it’s a living story of community, sustainability, and devotion to the land. With accessible trails, stunning plant diversity, and a deeply rooted sense of care, it’s the perfect destination for those seeking tranquility and inspiration near Vancouver.

If you’re planning a day trip or looking for things to do in Pitt Meadows, this garden is a must-see. Whether you come for the blooms, the fresh air, the whimsical hidden details, or a peaceful walk among trees, you’ll leave feeling grounded and inspired. There are even blueberries for people to sample!
We at Boro and Beyond were grateful to experience it—and we’ll absolutely be back.
